Great Sand Dunes

Location:  Colorado

Established:  September 13, 2004

Created by winds that sweep the San Luis Valley floor, the dunefield of Great Sand Dunes National Park sprawls across more than 30 square miles.  The park contains the highest sand dunes in North America, which rise over 750 feet high, and provides stunning views in the shadow of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.  Rather than bore you with lots of facts and figures, I will just say that the dunes are one big sandbox of epic proportions!
