Rocky Mountain
Location: Colorado
Established: January 26, 1915
Rocky Mountain National Park, though only an eighth the size of Yellowstone, accommodates as many visitors. The main road, Trail Ridge Road, crosses the park, forming the highest continuous paved highway in North America, reaching heights of 12,000 feet as you climb past subalpine forests and windswept tundra. Along the route, we were able to view massive peaks, rugged canyons, flower-studded meadows, thundering waterfalls and gorgeous lakes (there are 147 in total), all of which combined to offer a complete look at the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
