Pinnacles

Location:  California

Established:  January 10, 2013

On January 10, 2013, President Obama signed legislation redesignating Pinnacles from national monument to full national park status making it the newest national park.  Pinnacles is home to cliffs, crags, and cave formations that were formed by an ancient volcano. A virtual wonderland for rock climbing and day hiking, the park offers 32 miles of trails that climb along jumbled rock formations, through winding talus caves, and along shaded creeks.  The rock formations divide the park into two divisions – east and west – connected by foot trails.  There is no through road that connects the east and west entrances to the park.
